India's IT industry will face only short-term pain as overseas clients cut spending due to financial turmoil, says India's Nasscom.

The country's apex software body is bullish about long term, as it sees Western firms looking at cost savings outsourcing more services to cheaper locations such as India in the long run.

Nasscom expects a sharp jump in the industry's growth in the long term as overseas companies take the knife to costs by shipping operations like system integration, consulting, account management and payroll processing to Indian service providers.

Infosys MD & CEO S Gopalakrishnan too agrees with the same. In a recent interview he said that in an informal survey among our customers, we found there will be an increase in allocation for offshore work in some cases. We believe that due to the skills available and the ability to scale, India will be a preferred offshore location. Do you agree with these comments?

Will Indian IT benefit from slowdown in the long run? Will recession really result in increase in offshoring to India? Write in , and let us know.
